In November I’ll be presenting a revised draft of my boarding school chapter at the American Politics Workshop at the University of Chicago. If you’re around, I’d love to see you at the session. Nov. 3, 12-1:30, Pick Lounge (1st floor).
I’m visiting Carnegie Mellon University in a week to learn more about networks and network analysis. I’ll be learning new methods while working with the sociometric data from my boarding school case study — a perfect way to start the summer!
I was just informed that I’ve won a dissertation fellowship in the Social Science Division’s William Rainey Harper Fellowship competition.
I’ve been invited to give a talk on “Data collection in political science research” to 2nd and 3rd year political science students in the College. Stop by May 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Stuart 101.
My panel submission titled “Punishment and Political Conflict” was accepted to the annual conference of the American Political Science Association. The panel will be chaired by Naomi Murakawa (Princeton), and I’ll be presenting a draft chapter from my boarding school case study.
I’ll be in New York City next month (March 14-15) for NSSR’s Fourth Annual Radical Democracy Conference [poster here, agenda here]. The keynote speaker will be Drucilla Cornell (Rutgers), and panels are composed of graduate students from around the world studying contemporary democratic theory. The tentative title of the panel on which I’ll be presenting is “Radical Democratic Practice” — I couldn’t ask for a better audience for my Walpole case study.
Last week I had the pleasure of presenting in-progress research (headed by Prof. Cathy Cohen) on race & youth political engagement to the MacArthur Research Network on Youth and Participatory Politics in Los Angeles.
I’m in DC this week doing follow-up research on St. E’s at NARA.
The winter schedule for the Political Theory Workshop is now posted. On March 10th I’ll be presenting a draft of my research on St. Elizabeths. The working title of that chapter is “Mad Politics: Voice on an Asylum Ward” — hope to see you there!
I’m leading a year-long colloquium for political science students at the University of Chicago. A first draft of my syllabus is now posted.
